About the creation
From Coaldog Designer Park：
Q: Why is the character snowman?
A: I am personally fond of the snowman image. I have held several sets of the model all were Mr.Kow Yokoyama’s representative work, and the snowman design gives me a warm and lovely feeling compared with other Mecha.
Even though there are still a few derivative designs of Gansboy left to do, I can’t devote my mind to one derivative character for too long. My mind is always occupied with creative thoughts that can inspire me. 2022 happened to be the 40th anniversary of MA.K, so I think this design which is presented at the MA.K exhibition is suited for materializing. After briefly discussing this with Mr.Kow Yokoyama, we both looking forward to creating this figure. That’s when we decided to start up the project.
Q: If this is a new action body?
A: Yes. This is our self-developed original mecha body-IRON HEART that comes on the stage for the first time. The size is bigger than the 1/12 scale, the Snowman even reaches 18cm. We further upgrade its action joint and add more movable parts into the waist to make it more vivid. We will continue to use the action body for some giant characters afterward. Despite the long-developing period, we will endeavor to develop new action bodies to enrich our character’s features, the female body will also come out within this year.
Q: How about the process of your creation?
A: It took me a long time for the creation. When I was sorting through the photos, I found that my dog was just 2 months old when the project started, and now he is an adult dog. I am becoming accustomed to the long-developing period which took 1 to 2 years generally.
Due to the massive alteration of Mr.Kow’s design. It is almost redesigned, I was worried at first. Giving it a try, I talked to Mr.Kow about the alteration part, and out of surprise, we worked together so cheerfully and smoothly from the original concept to the later progress.
The only changes from the original design are the addition of a skateboard and the change of the abstract cat driver to a more realistic one. By the way, the patterns of the cat will be random. Except for the patterns shown in the official picture, the pattern of Mr.Kow Yokoyama’s cat will also be added.
The painting still uses a special painting style, and a lot of variegated colors are deliberately added to make the finished look more casual. This kind of painting effect that we have always insisted on is very difficult to control in production. It’s as if it’s relatively easy to get a row of people to step out with their left feet at the same time, but it’s hard to randomly step out the same feet every time with a rule, it adds up a lot of procedures. I don’t know if I make myself clear by this figuration.

Q&A for Mr.Kow Yokoyama about this time’s cooperation
Coaldog: It is the 40th anniversary of MA.K, what are your comments about your work of originality for 40 years? If you come across any difficulties during the time?
Kow: Looking back at the past 40 years of designing, I don’t remember any particularly difficult times. Designing and prototyping are more exciting than anything else.
Coaldog: What made you choose the combination of a snowman with the relatively grim mecha in the first place?
Kow: This is mainly from one of my illustrations, I think you can understand the story in the snow. In this scene, I drew the soldiers made this snowman out of red objects.
Coaldog: The collaboration design with Coaldog’s Park differs from your previous designs, what do you think of this time’s co-design?
Kow: I really like this illustration by Park (jumpsonwman), I thought it was so cute, so we hit it off.
